About Tagua Nut

Tagua (pronounced TAG-WAH) is a seed or a nut from a palm like tree that grows in the tropical rainforests of South America.

Also known as the "vegetable ivory" because of its rich ivory color and shiny texture, Tagua replaces the use of actual ivory in handmade jewelry production. The Tagua seeds are harvested after the seed has already dropped to the forest floor, allowing the plant to continue to reproduce undisturbed.

Purchasing Tagua not only preserves natural rainforest land and discourages the harming of elephants for ivory, it also helps to preserve a natural and economic way of life for many Artisans and their families.
